Organic farming is in integral aspect of COSA’s ‘PODS project’, to teach future self sufficiency and the sustainability to children residing within local shelters. Girls and young women within the shelter and the community are taught organic farming practices by local farmers, volunteers and staff.

Seed saving projects will ensure supplies of native organic crops are available and help to reintroduce traditional farming methods within the community.

Genetically engineered crops, pesticides and chemical fertilizers are degrading the soil and increasing the costs of farming. Large scale, cooperate-owned agriculture has destroyed many traditional farming methods though out Thailand and the hill tribe areas; forcing many small farmers out of business. Through the reintroduction and education of seed saving and organic farming methods, local and small scale farmers will have the means to develop sustainable and income generating businesses.

Alternative skill development and income generating projects will also be implemented; fruit preservation, fish farming and mushroom cultivating. Profits made through projects run by COSA, will remain within the organisation to run additional workshops within the organisation.
